Highland Elementary School's Autism Program:
Highland Elementary School's Program for Autistic Learners Success (PALS) serves students in kindergarten through 6th grade with individualized, evidence-based instruction tailored to each student's unique strengths and needs. The PALS program recognizes that autistic learners benefit from structured, predictable environments enhanced with visual supports—including schedules and picture cues—alongside explicit instruction, positive behavior supports, and sensory accommodations. Students receive differentiated academic instruction aligned with grade-level standards while developing critical communication and social skills in a safe, respectful setting.
The PALS program is built on a comprehensive framework that supports the whole child. In addition to academics, students develop communication skills, build meaningful relationships with peers and staff, and cultivate independence through systematic, scaffolded instruction.
